Hasselt University plays a leading role within the VLAIO Living Lab Leemsteen in researching the application of claystone in the Flemish construction practice. Together with construction partners, we explore how claystone can contribute to a more sustainable construction sector. Through research and practical cases, we study technical challenges and also gather insights from architects, contractors, and clients. In our exhibition, we showcase claystones from European producers, each with its own composition, production process, and characteristics. We also present contemporary applications of claystone masonry in both domestic and international cases and share key considerations when building with claystones.
